We took our trip month later than last year to help recover from the $$$ spent on Christmas.
Hoping to take advantage of spawning bass, we booked the trip during and just after the full moon.
We really had to fish hard for our fish this year. But, the hard fishing paid off at the end of the trip.
Nick was present with his Dad, Larry and Nick's namesake Nick 1. Being the pro that he is, he kept us fired up thinking the next cast would be a big one.
He texted us from his Phoenix bass rig at least once a day with pictures like these.
The first two days Wally, Doug and I fished out of Doug's rebuilt Gambler. Unfortunately our fish didn't quite look the same as Nick's.
But, on Tuesday we locked down and started catching a bunch of fish, while not the size of the Phoenix crew, we had fun as 40+ fish came boat side.
We were catching them on swim baits and senkos in a hayfield near Roland Martin's Marina
Needless to say, the bass really, really like the grass at the Big O.
When Doug wasn't figuring out how to steer his boat, he could catch them too!
Multitasking Wally caught this nice fish on Tuesday.
We felt better, after Monday which was a lot of casting and a little catching.
I've got more to come as the fishing ebbed between tough and out of this world.
Wednesday we head over to Lake Istokpoga to try some new water on my birthday.
